E.ON UK has submitted their proposal to replace the existing 485 MW coal fired power plant in Kingsnorth UK with a cleaner burning plant with 2 800MW Power Generating Boilers. What is interesting to note about this power plant is that it will be able to run on human, plant and animal waste. I am assuming that this is biogas that the report is talking about. Meaning that it will run from the methane generated by the decomposition of waste.
All I can say is… for 1.6 GigaWatts of Power… that’s a whole lot of Sh*t…
In the Philippines alone, I’ve heard of some Independent power producing companies that are planning to setup Coal Fired Power plants mainly because Coal is much cheaper than Diesel. The main stumbling block of course being site selection. Just have to have a deep channel port where the coal can be delivered via boat and ample supply of fresh water for the cooling system. Not to mention you have to have the area all to yourself so that you can get the necessary environmental permits from the government.
