Newsweek writes that the harlequin poison dart frog of Monteverde in Costa Rica has vanished. Caused by global warming creating cooler days in the Monteverde cloud forest leading to a rise in chytrid funges which infects the frogs. This disease prevents the absorption of water through the frogs skin leaving them unable to rehydrate.
This is but one of the effects of global warming, extinction of some species through the proliferation of some which thrive on the warm climate. This increase in world temperature is a habitat that insects and pests thrive in. Case in point is the increase in dengue cases in Singapore; from 4,000 infections 4 years ago to 18,000 last year, an almost 5 fold increase.

This is just as Darwinian as it can get, species that can’t cope with the climate change get wiped out while species that thrive on this new environment proliferate and knock out other species. I just hope and pray that the next killer bug doesn’t come out just yet and wipe out the entire human race (SARS, Bird Flu, Ebola ex.).
