The Cordillera Administrative Region has allocated 12,000 ha. of government land in their domain for the planting of Jatropha Curcas as feedstock for Biodiesel production. This is just the tip of the iceberg as they plan to add an additional 32,000 ha for expansion.

Yesterday, the Philippine Biofuels bill (Senate Bill 2226) was passed unanimously in the Philippine Senate.

Authored by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago while the House version was authored by Rep. Miguel Zubiri. It calls for 1% mixture of Biodiesel in the existing Diesel supply while 5% of Ethanol in Gasoline. The source materials has also to be acquired locally as stated in the Bill. Violators of this bill will be subject to 1-5 years imprisonment with an accompanying fine of P1-5 Million ($20k~100k).
