E.ON UK has submitted their proposal to replace the existing 485 MW coal fired power plant in Kingsnorth UK with a cleaner burning plant with 2 800MW Power Generating Boilers. What is interesting to note about this power plant is that it will be able to run on human, plant and animal waste. I am assuming that this is biogas that the report is talking about. Meaning that it will run from the methane generated by the decomposition of waste.

All I can say is… for 1.6 GigaWatts of Power… that’s a whole lot of Sh*t…

histometa1thumb.jpgNewsweek writes that the harlequin poison dart frog of Monteverde in Costa Rica has vanished. Caused by global warming creating cooler days in the Monteverde cloud forest leading to a rise in chytrid funges which infects the frogs. This disease prevents the absorption of water through the frogs skin leaving them unable to rehydrate.

Rosenergoatam, a Russian company specializing in Nuclear Energy, is planning to build a nuclear power barge to service the northern territories where the bad weather makes it difficult to deliver oil and coal, making a self sustaining power plant the only available option. This project is estimated to cost around $200 million. The power plants to be used will generate 60 MW each, similar to what is being used in Russian Icebreakers. The completion date is expected to be by 2010.

oilrig.pngU.S. Energy Information Administration said that Ultra-Low Sulfur diesel will be available in US within this month (Oct 15). They also said that there is ample supply of this ultra low sulfur diesel. Manufacturers have already begun production of the ultra-low sulfur last June 2006.
