Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors and the South Korean Government are working together to develop prototypes for a Hybrid car for commercial production in 2009. The collaboration has started in 2004 and will have a phase 2 deployment of 3300 vehicles to be sold for government use. Phase 1, which involved research and testing, is to be finished by this month.

Total investment of the South Korean government in this endeavor is expected to be $41 Million. Fuel economy of the cars are expected to be at 18.5-20 km/li.
