bus1_bw_jarno_vasamaa_01.pngOffice of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Clean Fuel Energy Enterprise Co (C-FEE) announced the fruits of their 7 month research: a 20-seater minibus powered by solar energy.

It has 10 solar-cell panels mounted on the roof that provide the power source for the bus which also has the following creature comforts to boast of: airconditioning, TV, DVD and a radio. The bus is able to attain a max speed of 60 kph with a range of 60 km. A recharge costs 18-23 baht and is enough to power the bus for one whole day. The bus comes at a price tag of 3 Million baht each.

Thailand is notorious for it’s traffic jams that could really tax an electric vehicles batteries. I wonder how it will affect the operational duration of the bus? Or they could just limit its use to low traffic areas. That is counting that it gets adopted for commercial use.
