2006 was a good year for Green Technology, if we base it on CNET’s year ender report. Mainly driven in part to huge Venture Capital interest in renewable energy due to rising oil prices as well as stronger scientific proof that there is a correlation between Global Warming and Green House Gases.

In line with this, I think 2007 will be an even better year for green technology. With the buzz generated in 2005 and 2006 because of Oil prices, Dwindling supplies as well as Global Warming, I’d expect more sectors of society to get into the Green Drive.

Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors and the South Korean Government are working together to develop prototypes for a Hybrid car for commercial production in 2009. The collaboration has started in 2004 and will have a phase 2 deployment of 3300 vehicles to be sold for government use. Phase 1, which involved research and testing, is to be finished by this month.

Total investment of the South Korean government in this endeavor is expected to be $41 Million. Fuel economy of the cars are expected to be at 18.5-20 km/li.

225px-peanut_9417.thumbnail.jpgYou were probably thinking that we were talking about heavily mutating Charlie Brown and the entire Peanut Gang, but no this is about the American Peanut Council and the Peanut Foundation giving the “Go” signal to scientists to start conducting experiments on genetically altering peanuts. The entire project is estimated to cost around $9.5 Million.
