The India Times reported that alternative energy has taken a bite at India’s national power grid by contributing a healthy 9100 mw of energy last year. Most of the energy came from wind farms which gave 6,070 mw of power. Biomass plants and hydro plants which came on line in 2006 also gave their share.
Data from the report came from the Ministry of New and Renewable energy’s year ender review.
Aside from helping the environment, one other major benefit obtained was that a lot of households which had no power finally had electricity supplied to them. This will hopefully spur economic growth in those areas. Nothing creates commerce like roads and electricity.
