300px-flag_of_aseansvg.pngASEAN leaders are scheduled to sign today the Cebu Declaration on East Asian Energy Security. This is in hopes of addressing the rising fuel prices by promoting energy dependence programs that will promote : Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Biofuels.

Along with this is the discussion to add biofuels in the free trade pact as well as promote one standard for biofuels, engines, and motor vehicles that use biofuels.

Also included to sign the pact, aside from the 10 member ASEAN countries, are Japan, Australia, New Zealand arrived here yesterday to join China, South Korea and India.

Draft documents showed the 16 nations would also see how they will adopt common standards for biofuels, increase capacity and reduce costs of renewable and alternative energy through innovative financing schemes.

Nothing like addressing the issue first on your own backyard before venturing outward.
