33% of rural areas in India are void of electricity. Aside from the fact that they are without power, they are also without any cellular network connection.
Mobile companies in India are now looking at biofuels to power these cellular stations in far flung areas. Specifically biodiesel derived from Cotton, Jatropha Curcas and Neem found close the base station. This is versus the current method of having to transport diesel in tankers to the base stations. According to them it will come out more economical in the long run.
