sugarcane.jpgEthanol from grass, wood chips and other foliage material is still ways off. Existing now are just small scale model distilleries. The problem right now in implementing it for mass use are three fold. Lack of support from government in terms of soft loans, the current technology costs just too much compared to traditional feedstock conversion (corn and sugarcane), and lastly the current technology consumes a lot of water.

120px-national_collegiate_athletic_association_logo.pngMiddlebury College Ski Program will work together with Native Energy, an energy company with a mission to support renewable energy projects, in order to offset the carbon generated by the NCAA’s regional championship.

Money earned from the event will be used to offset all the emissions generated from the said event. Not covered by them however are the potential carbon to be generated by spectators. The money will be invested in wind and methane power generating projects across the country.

This novel idea is hoped to help reduce pollution in the city. If that takes off, we could be seeing a new Urban Jungle… Literally! I wonder how many carbon credits you can gain from this one?
