The Department of Energy issued new rules for the selling of Autogas in the public market. Due to the sudden spike of fuel prices last year, a lot of taxi franchises converted their fleet to run on LPG. Hence the mushrooming of vehicles running on LPG.
The typical conversion kit and autogas installation will set you back about P 30,000. However for a taxi running the whole day, the taxi drivers told me that they are able to have an additional earning of P 600.00/day. With that you can payback the investment in the kit in just 50 days. Quite good I have to say.
The new rules cover the supply, hauling, storage, marketing and distribution of Autogas LPG. Before anyone engage, construct facilities and sell Autogas to the public, they must first acquire a Standard Compliance Certificate (SCC.) Prior to that they will need details of business activities as well as permits from the Dept of Environment and Natural Resource, Bureau of Product Standards, Dept. of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Fire Protection as well as Local Government Units.
In the Philippines there are about 4,000 vehicles running on Auto-LPG. In the Capital, Metro Manila, there are 20 service station-based, 11 stand-alone stations, five refilling/bulk plant-based and five garage-based. While in the Visayas there are 20 dispensing stations with seven stand-alone stations and 13 garage-based stations. In Mindanao however there are only eight dispensing stations.
