It’s nice to see that the Telecom companies in the Philippines are starting to think of using alternative energy to power their cell sites. Aside from lowering their carbon emissions they are also reducing their operating costs by foregoing the need to purchase fuel to power their isolated cell sites.
Smart Communications is using two wind turbines to generate 20 kilowatts/hour to power their cell site at Sitio Guimbitayan, Malapascua Island. This is the first in the country for a cell site to be powered by alternative energy.
