paint.jpgBiologist Lloyd Godson lived for two weeks underwater in his BioSub to prove that sustainable living is possible. Solar Cells and a Stationary Bicycle connected to a power generator were his source of energy while an algae farm absorbed his CO2 and converted it to breathable oxygen. Of course the food issue was solved by having divers come down to him regularly to deliver it along with his water.

suncloud.pngIt was reported that last tuesday was the hottest day ever in Manila with a temperature of 36.8 deg. Celsius. According to PAGASA, that it could be just the opening salvo of one of the hottest summers in the Philippines. I think 37 or 38 was the hottest on record from what I remember?

_42811463_peb203.jpgTwo Russian companies, Rosenergoatom and Sevmash, have started to build the first ever nuclear power barge in the world. Rosenergoatom, who specializes in Nuclear Power, is financing 80% of the project and Sevmash, who builds nuclear submarines, will finance 20%. $200 M is the estimated cost to build this barge which will be completed in 2010. Announcement of this plan to build a nuclear power barge was made last year.

Exxon Mobil was the most profitable company in the US as it came in no. 1 with an income of $39 B. The 7th spot was occupied by Chevron which had an income of $17.1B followed by ConocoPhillips in the 8th spot which made $15.5 Billion last year.

A local company, H&WB Corp, has hired an agent in the US for placement of its $2.8-billion proposed coal liquefaction plant. So far they have garnered about $33 M already for the project. Coal liquefaction is the process of converting coal, via Fischer-Tropsch Method, to other fossil based forms of fuel (gasoline, diesel etc).
