The Philippines PNOC Alternative Fuels Corp and NRG Chemical Engineering announced that they have joined together to build some biofuel processing facilities as well as the corresponding farms that will supply the feedstock. NRG will have majority ownership of the to-be formed company with a 70% share.

According to the report, the warchest will be used to build both a biodiesel plant and ethanol plant. With Jatropha Curcas to act as feedstock for the biodiesel plant.

The Department of Agriculture announced that Mindanao had committed 90,000 ha for biofuel feedstock production. Chiefly to be used for the planting of sugarcane, sweet sorghum and cassava. 2/3rd of the 90,000 ha is said to be found in South Cotobato alone. In line with this they have also started a massive fertilization project to beef up the coconut stocks in the island (accounts to 50% of the total Philippine production.)

The search for the Greenest City in the US in terms of “Eco” minded citizens. The winning city will get a fleet of hybrid taxis or cash equivalent, to be used for greening projects.

apc1.gifThe SEC has finally approved Aboitiz Power’s Initial Public Offering, which will offer shares of the company to the public at a maximum price of P6/each. 2 billion shares are going to be issued, 500M of which will be sold locally while 1B will be sold internationally. I wouldn’t be surprised if the price of the stock doubles on the first day of release (July 4 ~ July 10) given the reputation of the energy generating business to one being perpetually profitable. Not to mention that according to the DOE, Philippine power demand is expected to surpass supply by 2010, so there is going to be a huge demand for power plants.

As part of a global survey conducted by the SWS for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs (CCGA) and WorldPublicOpinion.org (WPO), they were able to determine that 76% of Filipino’s believe that Global Warming should be addressed in a gradual manner.
