The 5th of June has been slated by the United Nations General Assembly as World Environment Day(WED). It was initially marked by the assembly way back in 1972. This years slogan is “Melting Ice – a Hot Topic?.”
On this World Environment Day, let us examine the state of our environment. Let us consider carefully the actions which each of us must take, and then address ourselves to our common task of preserving all life on earth in a mood of sober resolution and quiet confidence.
The theme of this years WED will focus on:
The effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the ensuing consequences around the world.[source]
This years host City is the city of Tromsø in Norway. The 2007 WED will have the following agenda:
- To give a human face to environmental issues.
- Empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.
- Promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.
- Advocate partnership, which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.
So how can you celebrate WED in your own community? the site gave these examples:
World Environment Day can be celebrated in many ways, including street rallies, bicycles parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more.
If you still haven’t gotten any ideas from that, you can always try the 77 Ways to Celebrate WED that the UNEP site provides.

Tuesday, 5th of June: The World environment day
Dear readers,
Yesterday was the World Environment Day, let us recognize the need to slow the momentum of the dramatic environmental changes we are seeing at the poles and around the globe. And let each of us pledge to do our part to fight climate change.
Greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are causing our world to get warmer.
Concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are higher than at any time for the past 600,000 years, and the rate of increase is accelerating. There is an urgent need to take action.
We must change the warming trend within the next couple of decades. If we don’t, we will likely see changes that make Earth a different planet than the one we know.
So we have to stop speaking about it and finally act and do something against this warming.
In Lion Energy, all together, we tempt to make people understand the importance of the global warming.
Our company is developing projects that will not be only potentially very profitable for our shareholders, but they will also contribute to the preservation of the environment and to the increase in the quality of life of many people. If you are ready for our country to set a new course towards a clean energy future, please be welcome to visit our site www.lionhellas.com or our blog http://medysun.blogspot.com and do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
Best regards from Lion Energy.
