Slated to be finished by December 2010, the 3 hydro projects are located in Virac Catanduanes. The 5 sites are expected to generate about 8.6 MW at a cost of about P500M.
The 5 sites identified to comprise the 3 hydro projects are:
Solong River in San Miguel (2,300 kilowatts); Hitoma Lower Cascade in Obi, Caramoran (1,500 KW); Hitoma Upper Cascade, Obi, Caramoran (1,575 KW); Pagsangahan, San Miguel (2,100 KW); and, Hinipaan Upper Cascade in Salvacion, Bagamanoc (1,200 KW).
Sunwest Water and Electricity Co (SUWECO) has already signed a sales agreement with the local power distributor, First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative Inc (FICELCO). The agreement states that FICELCO will buy a minimum 53% of the power generated by the dams. Excess power not used by FICELCO can be used by SUWECO to power their real estate projects (IT Park, Tourism, Misc Projects)
I’m getting that Warm Fuzzy feeling of knowing that even without the passage of the Philippines renewable energy bill, the power sector is taking the initiative to develop cheaper and cleaner natural energy sources.

Not sure if it’s the same project. But one project (involving multiple mini-hydro electric power projects on Catanduanes Island) between SUWECO and FICELCO got put on hold till 2008 to work out some conflicts. This happened about 5 days ago.
