The Philippine Department of Energy has just posted on their site the application form for the 2nd Green Energy (Green-E) Awards. Deadline of submission of application form is on Sept 14, 2007. Winners will be announced during the National Energy Week in December 2007.
According to the Program:
The GREEN ENERGY (GREEN-E) AWARDS PROGRAM aims to recognize and commend outstanding projects and programs that demonstrated superior and exemplary achievements in the development, utilization and promotion of renewable energy resources and technology and contributed to the economic, social and environmental development of the country.
Objectives of the Contest are:
- To recognize the efforts and best practices of project developers, end-users, other organizations and individuals, who help foster the growth of RE in the country.
- To Encourage stakeholders to implement RE projects and energy consumers to adopt RE technologies
- To Encourage innovations in local RE technologies to be more responsive to market needs.
Four Categories are provided for in the contest, these are:
- Renewable Energy for On-Grid Electricity Generation.
- Renewable Energy for Off-Grid Electricity Generation.
- Renewable Energy for Non-power Applications.
- Award for Innovativeness.
The contest is open to all Renewable Energy (RE) Projects in the Philippines. Nominations may be made by the project itself or an external organization. Projects may be nominated in more than one category. Even programs that are in support of RE projects maybe nominated (so it doesn’t generally have to be about powerplants). The project must already be completed and in operation 6 months prior to the submission of the application form.
Valid RE Projects are:
- Photovoltaic
- Solar thermal water heating
- Wind power
- Geothermal heating and cooling
- Small hydro power
- Biomass systems
- Hybrid projects
Hmmm?… I wonder why there are no biofuels in there? must be a misstep…
Application Requirements are:
- Four (4) copies of nomination/application form which provides appropriate information on how the project or activity meets the criteria for the category chosen, and why an award is deserved.
- List of collaborators and support received.
- Certificate of practical completion and achievements.
- Four (4) colored photographic prints of the project images, preferably 8R standard prints (254 mm x 203 mm) properly captioned, or four (4) high quality (300+dpi) digital images on a PC readable CD, clearly labelled with entry 4 particulars, which must be accompanied by a set of good quality properly captioned 8R prints.
- A typewritten note on single sides of A4-sized paper using Arial 12 font with double spacing, which provide a narrative with details on the project or activity. The technical information should address in narrative form the requirements outlined in the Application Form and must be submitted in loose sheets in an envelope and not in any form of binder.
Completed Application Forms should be submitted to either of the following Addresses:

Off the top of my head, it looks like the Bagasse Fed Powerplant of Central Azucarera de San Antonio in Negros won’t be eligible for this because its not yet operational. But I think there are a lot of projects in Universities that can do well to join this contest in order to get exposure. During my time as a college student I had some mechanical engineering batchmates developing some miniature hydro power plants to power remote villages in Northern Luzon in the Philippines for their thesis. Projects like that not only benefit the renewable energy program but also the common folks… that’s where it really matters.
Since you are allowed to nominate yourself, I wonder if this blog is eligible to be nominated? Considering its a “pathetic” attempt to document the renewable energy scene in the Philippines, which could make it classify as a project in support of RE… yep, some guys just collect stamps for a hobby, I decide to blog about Renewable Energy… *snicker*
