A while back Yahoo announced a contest to determine the greenest City in the United States along with the launching of their Yahoo! Green Website.
Almost a month and a half later the Winning City was determined to be the City of Hastings in Nebraska. The city was able to win with 25,000 of its residents doing the following:
- Taking pledges to reduce their carbon diets on Yahoo! Green.
- Answering green questions on Yahoo! Answers.
- Conducting eco-friendly mobile searches on Yahoo! oneSearch.
The city opted for the cash equivalent of their prize, which was a fleet of hybrid taxi’s. The cash equivalent amounts to $250,000 which they will have to use in greening projects.
The Cities of Pelzer (South Carolina), San Carlos (California), Mill Valley (California) and Topeka (Kansas) will also receive a cache of compact fluorescent light bulbs for coming in as the top 4 runners-up. (Complete list here)
