You think that with the entry of Typhoon season in the Philippines the country would be worried. The reality is that this year the Philippines is welcoming typhoons with open arms. Not because of the death and destruction that is usually brings, but rather for the strong rains that accompanies it.
Rains are very much needed now in the Northern Island of Luzon where the capital, Metro Manila, is located. This is so that the rains can fill up the reservoirs of the Hydro Electric Dams. The water levels of the Dams are running very low due to the prolonged dry season that preceded the rainy season.
This could be the Philippines own proof that Global Warming exists. With the low levels of water, some parts of Luzon are experiencing blackouts. Typically Summer starts in March and ends in May, while rainy season starts in August till September.
In contrast however, the southern part of the Philippines, the island of Mindanao is not affected by the black out problem even with the fact that 60% of hydroelectric power generators in the Philippines are located in this area. The reason is because of the climate that Mindanao has. It is blessed with consistent rainfall year on out as well as its geographic location makes it a low typhoon traffic area.
This report is in Filipino but basically states that some of the Dams water level is increasing
