After an ambush on Government troops in the notorious area of Basilan by Muslim Separatists that left 14 Marines killed, then to add further insult to injury, their bodies were beheaded and mutilated by Muslim Terrorists, the Abu Sayyaf. The war has further escalated and displaced families with pursuit operations going full swing in the area.
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called on the Department of Energy and Department of Education to work together to set up Solar Powered Science labs which would help to not disrupt the learning of students who are in the affected areas.
Alternative Energy has become part of a two pronged approach being used by the government during this offensive. One a military assault and the other a humanitarian one, which is bannered by medical missions and alternative energy projects to sway the support of the populace away from the rebels.
Of course long before the Dept of Energy and Department of Education started this project, local group AMORE had already started alternative energy projects in this long neglected region in hopes of jump starting their economy and uplifting the lives of the community.
