According to CNN Money, disruptor’s are paradigm shifting businesses that can open up new opportunities and upend existing industries. In their article they listed 15 startups that can classify as such. Looking through the list I found a couple of companies that could be classified as having an impact on lowering our consumption.
- Bloom Energy - producer of solid-oxide fuel cells that can be used in homes to generate their own electricity as well as sell excess of it to the grid.
- Zink - Inkless printing developer where the secret is in the paper, it it embedded with dye crystals. The question is if the paper is biodegradable, I’ll put it on the list but will mark this a questionable.
- A123 Systems - holds patents for smaller and lighter lithium ion batteries with longer battery life for use in hybrid vehicles.
- REG - Renewable Energy Group - a biodiesel producer that has cornered 40% of the market.
- Cree - Producer of LED’s that can replace fluorescent light bulbs.
This goes well with my belief that aside from mankind adapting to using more renewable energy resources, we must also develop technology that will reduce our consumption or make energy conversion more efficient
