Philippine Archbishop Oscar Cruz is opposing the Philippine Governments plan to tap nuclear energy for future energy use. He was quoted as saying that the government can’t even handle the problems of floods and garbage at the nations capital and yet they want to try nuclear energy. He also sited the potential problem of the plant being attacked by terrorists.
To foreigners this might look like just a religious man babbling at his pulpit, but Filipino’s know to well influence that the Catholic Church has over the country. Case in point they were responsible for the toppling of two incumbent presidents when they mustered their faithful to support the revolutionaries in two bloodless revolts(EDSA I and EDSA II). It has been stated also that their inflence has been the prime reason why the death penalty has been revoked and why the Philippines can’t get a decent birth control program running.
