Jatropha CurcasThe First Mindanao Jatropha Forum in the Philippines will be held today, August 28, 2007, at Cagayan de Oro City. This forum has been initiated by the PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corporation. The Forum will tackle the government’s thrust of developing jatropha into an alternative source of fuel for diesel and as a poverty alleviation measure for farmers.

The Forum will be highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for joint Jatropha ventures by PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corporation and Land Bank of the Philippines. The Philippine President herself is expected to grace this event. The Theme for the forum will be “Jatropha Feedstock: Prospects and Challenges.”

dbp.jpgDevelopment Bank of the Philippines announced their Php 1 Billion “Cleaner Public Transport Financing program”. This program extends credit to credible financial institutions at 8% interest/year which in turn they can use to finance lending programs to transport groups seeking to comply with the Clean Air Act of the Philippines RA 8749. Up to 90% of the total project cost can be covered by the loan.

Chemrez Philippines, the first publicly listed biodiesel processor in the Philippines, declared a stock dividend and stock buy back plan yesterday. This resulted in a P0.25 increase from its previous day closing price of P4.00/share.

Philippine Archbishop Oscar Cruz is opposing the Philippine Governments plan to tap nuclear energy for future energy use. He was quoted as saying that the government can’t even handle the problems of floods and garbage at the nations capital and yet they want to try nuclear energy. He also sited the potential problem of the plant being attacked by terrorists.
