The Sweet Life, hosted by Lucy Torres-Gomez and Wilma Doesnt, had a special on Eco Living with segments touching on fashion, health and living. One segment of the show focused on Rajo Laurel’s, pet project of recycled(retaso) bags.

Lucy Torres-Gomez The Sweet Life

Rajo Laurel is a famous designer from the Philippines. His passion for fashion started at an early age which led him to attend some prestigious design schools abroad in order to develop further his craft. His talent for design has allowed him to bag some very important fashion awards from abroad.

Together with Reese Fernandez, director of Rags to Riches, they showcased their social project which is recycling old rags into usable and fashionable bags. According to Rajo Laurel it all started when the Jesuit Priests from the Ateneo approached him for his advice on how to help some underprivileged women from a town earn a living.

After seeing that they were making old cloths into rags, he advised them that they could earn further by diverting their talents in sewing and the raw materials they had to make fashionable items. Hence the bag cottage industry was established for them.
