A few days ago I did a post on the Bangui Wind Farm at Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. And just as if on cue, news came out that the Wind Farm’s expansion to 33 MW capacity will be finished by August 2008 this year. Some great news indeed from the Northwind Power Development Corp, who own the windfarms.
The Bangui Wind Farm currently has a capacity of 25 MW which supplies 40% of the province’s electricity demand (108,000 households.) The excess capacity which will be generated from the additional 8MW will be used to supply power to the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC).
Along with this news came the report that the country is planning to harvest an additional 200 MW from wind projects within the next 15 years and 400 MW from 20 years onwards.
Of course what we need now is the passage of the renewable energy bill in the Philippine Legislative branches so that power producers will be easily inclined to invest in more renewable energy projects instead of fossil fuel based ones in order to meet the demand of 2010.
