Karla Paula Henry, representing Cebu City, ran away with the coveted title of Miss Philippines Earth 2008. It was a tense moment because she and Miss USA East Coast were the only 2 remaining contestants to be called. One would be crowned Miss Philippines Earth while the other would be crowned Miss PAGCOR Philippines.

When Melanie Felix’s name was called as the winner of Miss PAGCOR Philippines, Karla Paula Henry burst into tears with the knowledge that she had won the Title.
After the 10 finalists were chosen it was further whittled down to six. Making it into the six finalists guaranteed already a position in the Miss Earth Pageant. The other four winners are:

Venus Raj Mana, representing Legazpi City won the Miss Eco Tourism title, she will be tasked to promote eco tourism in the country. Kristelle Lazaro, representing Candaba, bagged the Miss Fire title. She will be tasked to promote protection of our forests and other plant life. Marian Michelle Oblea, representing Obando, won the Miss Water title. She will work to promote the protection of our water resources. Marie Razel Eguia, representing Dipolog, won the Miss Air title. Her task is to promote clean air.

The four others who made it into the 10 finalists were; Miss Zamboanga(Sharina Deriza), Miss USA West Coast (Nikki Martin), Miss Fil-France (Alexandra Astrid Albert) and Miss Bulacan (Joanna Rumohr).
Congratulations to all the Winners, the finalists and contestants. Getting the chance to represent your City or Municipality is an award in itself.
I wish they had a Miss Conservation award. This way she can promote a non-wasteful lifestyle to the general populace. When you think about it, over population and a wasteful lifestyle are the main reasons why we are such a strain on mother earth’s resources.
I would have also said that I wish they had a Miss Renewable Energy award so that the much needed Renewable Energy Bill gets finally pushed in congress. But agreeing to that would mean that I am expecting the Renewable Energy Bill not to be passed in 2008. Here’s keeping my fingers crossed that it finally does get passed.
