Renowned Philippine Columnist, Mr. Rey “Butch” Gamboa, reported that Eco Securities of Ireland offered a local piggery, Uni-Rich, $12000/year ($4/carbon credit) for their carbon revenues till the year 2012. Uni-Rich gets carbon credits for trapping and using the methane generated from their pig manure to power some of their facilities.
In turn, Eco Securities sells their rights to big banks (Caisse des Depots) at $18/carbon credit. Does it look like a fair trade?, or is there just too much money for the middle man? But if Eco Securities are the one themselves investing in the certification and the methane trapping equipment, then it is a fair trade off. Not to mention that there are yearly monitoring costs that have to be spent to check whether Uni-Rich is indeed following its Green practices of processing their solid wastes.

Palawan Governor, Joel Reyes, said that P110 million from the Malampaya Natural Gas Royalties that the Philippines are receiving will be used to fund their Solar Home System Project
This will give electricity and power to over 960 households. These households reside in 24 barangays (town) within the municipalities of Coron, Culion, Dumaran, Linapacan and Quezon. Aside from powering homes it will also power streets via the inclusion of five solar-powered streetlights for each town.

The Miss Earth Philippines 2008 Beauty Pageant will be on May 11, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Ortigas. Winner of this contest will represent the Philippines in the Miss Earth Contest. I was surprised that even Filipino communities in France and Germany sent their own representatives to the contest. The contestants were presented to the Media last April 29 at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Philippine Department of Energy Director, Mario Marasigan, said that there are already 6 Wind Farm Projects in the Philippines in Development. Total investment in these projects would reach about $1B with 1 MW of power costing about $2.5 Million to harvest.
