I decided to do a rehash of an old post showing Biofuel Data on Google Trends. Google Trends is a nifty tool to see what the in-demand search queries are as well as the volume of a particular keyword that is being searched. Yep, the ultimate strategic planning tool for the sales, marketing and long range planning folks.

Google Trend Oil PriceWith the recent spike in oil prices it was logical to assume that there would be once again a lot of search queries on alternative energy. I wanted to set a base line so I did this by checking the performance of the keyword “oil price” [click on image] since if you’re planning to study the feasibility of alternative energy products you would most likely check what the price of oil is for comparison.

If you look at the graph the level of interest in the price of oil now was the same as in 2005 when the price of oil spiked up to unheard of levels. The level in 2006 and 2007 could probably mean that the world has grown accustomed to oil being above $40/barre, hence the seemingly waning interest. Most of the regions interested in the price of oil come from Asia, with the top 4 being Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Google Trend BiofuelsDespite the lull in interest in the price of oil during 2006 and 2007, its nice to see that people are still very much interested in searching for biofuels. The graph shows a steady rise and upward trend from 2005 - 2008. South Africa, Ireland, Philippines, India and Singapore are the countries that come out on top. The results are quite different, as to who the top regions are, when you key in “biofuel“, but the overall trend is the same.

The world’s interest for the Hybrid cars seems to wax the same as the spike in the price of oil. But it seems to disappointingly go down once the general public has grown accustomed to the price of oil. Or am I pegging this on a wrong trend?

Check out these other trends on renewable energy keywords: Solar, Ethanol, Biodiesel, Jatropha Curcas, or go ahead and make up your own.
