This is the best gas saving technique that I know of. Quite easy actually, even my 1.7 year old son does this when I’m driving and I swear that it saves me tons of gas a week. And it works for all types of vehicles, from SUV’s to sedans, to compacts etc. It’s just a simple process too. First you put your hand on the ignition key… and the next step is… wait for it… turn the key to the left.
Yeah, I don’t believe in after market gas saving add-ons to the car. I think the most they can do is knock off a few pts of your gas consumption but the threat of damaging your engine could be much greater.
Car manufacturers spend years to build cars and invest heavily in motorsports for their R&D where high speed and low gas consumption are the Holy Grail. So what else do they not know about fuel efficiency? And they will build and develop fuel efficient cars if there is a demand for it, like the time they built gas guzzling SUV’s for consumers that found it cool driving a big car during the time of cheap gas prices…. funny too that majority of them never even took their SUV’s off road, for the very purpose it was intended.
Environmentalist Ed Begley Jr was interviewed in CNN’s Going Green Special, he mentioned that he has 4 options when travelling the last two are the use of alternative energy vehicles (electric and not sure if hydrogen was the other one) but the one he prioritizes the most are biking and walking.
For me, the best way to save gas, is not to use it. Learn to commute, carpool or live closer to your workplace so that you can walk to work.
