In His speech at World Youth Day 2008 in Australia, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, said that he laments the world’s “insatiable consumption” that results in squadering of the worlds resources (mineral and ocean) as well leading to soil erosion and deforestation.
He said to the young Catholics:
“Some of you come from island nations whose very existence is threatened by rising water levels, others from nations suffering the effects of devastating drought. God’s wondrous creation is sometimes experienced as almost hostile to its stewards, even something dangerous. How can what is ‘good’ appear so threatening?”
Early this year the Vatican announced that polluting is a Sin as part of their program to modernize the classification of Mortal Sins in the Catholic Faith.
