ADB: Era of Cheap Food is OverAccording to the Asian Development Bank’s latest Asia Economic Monitor, the days of cheap food are numbered as increased demand, supply problems and the upsurge of the biofuel industry will forever keep the price of food at current levels.

While also here in the Philippines there is a more heated debate on Population Control being waged between the Catholic Church and the Government. The Catholic Church only endorses Natural Family Planning Method and Artificial means are treated as a sin.

For my own experience I am a father of one, who has no plans to add another child into our brood. What compels me to do this is the want to provide my child a good future based on the projected cost of raising a child 18 years down the road and having a modest household income.

So what separates me from the next guy who likes to spread his genes like a rabbit? Is it education? Is it because of a job? Is it because I have a tv in the house so I have something better to do at night? My father had more than a dozen siblings and I asked him why that was so, he just shrugged his shoulders and said ” probably because there was no tv then”.

With a population of over 88 Million, it won’t take long for the Philippines to reach 100M. Kinda scary considering that our main staple of rice has to be imported from outside because internal production cannot meet the demand for rice. Definitely this problem of an out of control population has to be addressed.
