Hedcor vs DCWDHere’s an interesting development on the Aboitiz’s Tamugan-Suawan Hydro Project. The DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau has put on hold the ECC permit of the project due to the current tiff between Aboitiz subsidiary Hedcor and the Davao City Water District.

In EMB’s letter to Hedcor president and Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Rene Ronquillo, it cited the rightful jurisdiction of the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) on the matter of water rights — the main reason of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) for opposing Hedcor’s ECC application. Davao City Councilor and Blogger, Coun. Peter Lavina, has an interesting insight on the issues that the City Council has to tackle with as it tries to mediate both contesting parties.

The Davao City Council has previously stated that both projects are considered very important by the Local Government because the City both needs a good supply of water and electricty for its populace.
