Rasmus Lerdorf says inefficient code is bad for the environmentRasmus Lerdorf, the father of the PHP Hypertext language that powers almost all of the web’s programs said in a talk recently the importance of writing efficient code for the environment.

This was said while using PHP frameworks as an example. A framework is a ready set structure of code already pre developed for developers to use in order to speed up their programming by not having to write code commonly used in software. It greatly aids in cutting down development time and cost. But because it tries to solve all of the programmers needs there is a tendency to have a code bloat which can affect performance.

It’s been two months already and the sunken M/V Princess of the Stars with the deadly cargo of Endosulfan is still floundering off the coast of Romblon.

Just a reminder in case people have already forgotten because of the high price of gas and the recent attacks by Muslim insurgents that have been hogging the news lately.

Flying V puts up Biofuel CenterFlying V, a member of the small oil players in the Philippines, announced that they have put up a biodiesel center at Navotas fish port in order to take advantage of the multitude of vehicles who load and unload fish daily at that area.

Port Area manager said that they would be able to service the fuel and lubricant needs of land and fishing vessels.

Aboitiz Tamugan-Suwaan Project on the brink of cancellationAboitiz Power Corp, via their Hedcor subsidiary, announced that their board had approved the scrapping of the 34.5-megawatt (MW) Tamugan-Panigan-Suawan Hydro Electric project worth 7 Billion if they do not attain consensus with the Davao City Water District(DCWD) on the joint usage of the Tamugan river. DCWD holds the rights to the usage of the river owing to a previously approved permit given almost 10 years ago. DCWD is holds the franchise rights to distribute water to the city of Davao.

The Suwaan part of the project was slated to begin construction this July, but because of an objection by the DCWD, was put on hold. Now, with steel and construction materials going up, the delay in the start of construction could mean that the project is not economically viable anymore to setup hence the board approved option to scrap the project.

Basic Energy goes into a Joint Venture Scheme with a Cassava growerBasic Energy Corp announced that they have set up a joint venture scheme with cassava producer Ecomarketfarms in Zamboanga. Basic Energy will provide the capital while Ecomarketfarms will provide the business and management plan for the project.

Under the JV, Basic Energy will purchase Ecomarketfarms Cassava farm for P12.5 million, payable through shares and cash.
