Hedcor Sibulan Hydro ProjectPart of the responsibility of Hedcor in the construction of the 42MW Sibulan hydro electric power plant is to protect 1,000 hectares of forest within the Mt. Apo Natural Park by means of reforestation, agro-forestry and erosion control.

Hedcor Vice-President Gregorio Jabonillo said the company is bound to protect the watersheds, not just for its hydro plants but also for the communities.

In line with this they have tapped Pontmain Resources, Inc. to provide indigenous coconut materials to stabilize the slopes leading to the plant. The matting material made of coconuts will not only prevent soil erosion but promote the growth of plant life. The project with Pontmain will cost about P1.4 Million.

The Aboitiz Group’s Hedcor subsidiary is expected to finish construction of the hydro electric power plant by August of 2009.
