According to a GreenPeace article on their site. The Senate version of the Renewable Energy Bill was passed yesterday. Woohoo!
The Congress version was passed last June while the Senate version of the bill hit a snag because of some issues raised with regards to the perks given to RE investors. True to their word, barring any unforeseen events, the Bill can get signed into law by October this year.
No mention if both houses would have to convene to merge the two versions of the Bill as what happened with the Philippine Biofuels Bill. Compared to the Philippine Biofuels Bill, there is no election period in effect to delay enactment.
After that all that will be needed is the signature of Her Excellency, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, then the Department of Energy and other involved institutions can get cracking.
According to the report, the Philippine RE Bill was 18 years in the making… Wow, despite that, let me just say… Hellooooo Clean Energy
