Sinag 2

Looks like my alma mater, De La Salle University, is intent on joining again the 2009 World Solar Challenge as they have announced a student competition to design the outer shell of their solar car: Sinag 2 on their school site.

Due on the 10th of October I guess I’m a little late in posting this. The contest is open to students of DLSU and has the following requirements:

* General shape of car (front, side, top, isometric view if possible)
* Car fits in a box 5 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, 1.6 meters tall
* Driver eye level must be at least 0.7 meter from ground
* Total area of solar panels and location
* Driver sitting position (26 deg from vertical)
* Location of wheels

Winners will get to collect a cool P2000.00 prize. Enough for a case of beer that engineer’s love and enjoy *snicker*

Last year, Sinag, a car designed by students and professors of De La Salle University Engineering Department successfully crossed the finish line of the gruelling race while running constantly at 11th place behind the leader who had a whopping 2 day lead over the rest of the pack.

From the wsc site:

The Challenge: Design and build a car capable of crossing the vast and imposing continent of Australia using only sunlight as fuel and to prove it, in the spirit of friendly competition against others with the same goal.

Here’s us wishing them luck. Last years team sponsors were:

Ford Group Philippines, Motolite, Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corp., Shell, SunPower, U-Freight, and Ventus. Aurora, Cabrera Lavadia and Associates, JWT, Creasia, Merritt Partners, Tuason Racing School, Gochermann Solar Technology, and Stratworks.
