The Philippine Biofuels bill require gasoline companies to mix a certain percentage of biofuel with their gasoline sold at the pump. Right now the the Department of Energy(DOE) is considering increasing the limit ahead of schedule to 3% so as to encourage investors to enter the biodiesel production industry.

DOE director Mario Marasigan said that there are 10 accredited biodiesel suppliers in the country with 3 just waiting for approval. The 13 companies would be more than able to meet the 326 million liters requirement for a 3% blend in our diesel fuel.

Great news there, the flip side is that gasoline companies are allowed to import biodiesel if local supplies cannot meet demand. Which practically shoots down the principal of developing our local biofuel industry.
