greenpeace opposes reopening of Bataan Nuclear Power PlantReacting to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s bill proposing to reopen the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power plant, Greenpeace submitted a position paper to the Chamber opposing the measure and batting instead for renewable energy.

Greenpeace’s paper states that:

  1. Nuclear power is highly expensive and a risky investment, repeatedly failing to deliver.
  2. It’s construction and generating costs are greater than most renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
  3. It posses multiple threats to people and the environment.
  4. The risks and environmental damage from its spawned sub industries. Which are the mining, processing and transport of nuclear fuel and nuclear weapons proliferation.
  5. The potential hazard of a serious accident
