Two days from now on the 27th of November, Davao City will play host to the Philippine Auto-LPG Summit. The summit venue is the Waterfront Insular Hotel and will start at 8 AM and end at 5PM.

The one day event aims to impart to the concerned individuals and groups the mandatory standards required in the Auto-LPG industry. These specifically governing the automotive LPG cylinders, dispensing stations requirements and procedures as well as registration requirements of vehicles using automotive LPG.

Their task is also to inform all concerned individuals and groups specifically: the public, investors, manufacturers, importers, suppliers, distributors, converters, service providers, motorists, LGUs, and consumer organizations on their roles and responsibilities in the regulation of the auto-LPG industry (including but not limited to cars, motorcycles, marine, etc.).

The summit is organized by the LPG Industry Association, In.c (LPGIA) along with the DTI’s Bureau of Product Standards, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation and Communication and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Auto LPG usage has gained popularity and gone mainstream in the Philippines due to the high price of gasoline. As with any sunshine industry, problems in regulation and governance owing to the inexperience of all sectors in this field will normally crop up.

Drawbacks of the AutoLPG system being offered in the market, is that there is a noticeable powerloss in the engine when going up inclines or during high revs. There is also a 15% -25% increase in consumption compared to gasoline. Despite that, Auto-LPG is still relatively cheaper than gasoline and diesel, hence a God sent to the public transport sector as they are able to increase their already slim profit margins.
