Christmas has always been about the birth our Saviour, Jesus Christ. The celebration that happens along with this has been turned into one consumer fiesta by marketers and businesses. Not that we’re saying that consumption is bad. Its when we let it get out of hand that it becomes bad.
With this comes a plea from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to Celebrate Christmas and the Holidays in an Eco friendly way.
This is by disposing of holiday residue properly (segregation), using electricity efficiently, being careful in lighting fireworks and before buying or consuming anything, check first if it’s really needed.
According to the DENR: Less consumption means less stress on the Earth’s resources and will also result in reduced strain on the environment brought about by the manufacturing processes, and minimize the amount of garbage.
The Metro Manila Development Authority has estimated that residents of Metro Manila could generate an additional 4,000 to 7,000 tons of garbage per day during the Christmas season.
