One turbine at the Lincolnshire wind farm had one of its blades knocked off and another damaged early Sunday. Considering that a turbine blade is about 20m long, it could have taken considerable force to accomplish this feat.
UFO enthusiasts around the area however were insisting that it was an Unidentified Flying Object that did the dastardly deed. While County councillor, Robert Palmer, said he had seen a “round, white light that seemed to be hovering”.
Ecotricity, who manages the site said that they were keeping an “open mind” as to the cause of the incident.
Dr Peter Schubel, who is an expert in the design and manufacture of wind turbine blades, said however that it could have been ice from a neighboring turbine that could have struck and damaged the turbines blades.
Well if it was indeed a UFO, I hope they don’t consider it an act of war against them by wind farms and start knocking off similar turbines in retaliation. That could indeed put a damper to the world’s renewable energy activities *snicker*
