How often do you see an Energy company that has a subsidiary whose main purpose is to save energy? Well its kinda like shooting yourself in the foot, but I have to commend the Aboitiz Group for having that kind of business.
Aboitiz Energy Solutions recently announced that they have tied up with an American firm, Davies Energy Systems Inc, to provide energy-efficient solutions to private companies and local government units.
Both companies will apply their expertise and technologies to clients reduce energy costs. Their technology is applicable mainly for office buildings, shopping malls, commercial centers, manufacturing plants, industrial facilities and government offices. Both companies will supply financing for companies who are availing of their products.
Update: It’s interesting to note that in the 1950’s, the Aboitiz Group once ventured into the retail of electronic appliances because they were creating demand for their energy distribution company, Davao Light & Power Co., in the island of Mindanao.

Well, there is a big push for people to save energy so maybe Aboitiz is preparing to make up for future losses by entering this new market. Are oil companies that invest in renewables shooting themselves in the foot? “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” - Charles Darwin. And well… times are changing.

Oil companies venturing into biofuels is so that they can maintain market share. Now if Oil companies were investing in the development of more fuel efficient cars, I think that would be similar to what the Aboitiz Group is doing
