Part three of the report by Prof. Kelvin S. Rodolfo’s on the Geological and Natural Hazard’s to the operation of the Bataan Nuclear powerplant shows that Mt. Natib, which lies next the the decommissioned power plant, has been recorded to have been active with earthquakes since 1973. Some of which have occurred within 25 km of the power plant. The most recent of which had a magnitude of 4.6 and occurred on June 24, 1991.

Another thing that has to be explored are the lineament’s (topographic feature having a linear configuration [ex. ridges or depressions]) around the plant area. Whether or not they are indeed indicators to natural fault lines which could potentially cause earthquakes.

The report also contradicts Rep. Conjuangco’s statement on the Reporter’s Notebook show that there is already a way to dispose of nuclear fuel waste safely. According to Prof. Rodolfo:

No country in the world has yet solved the problem of how to store nuclear waste permanently and safely for tens and hundreds of thousands of years. In the meantime, spent fuel is stored next to the plants, in pools of water that absorb the radiation and disperse the heat.
