Universal Motors, dealer of Nissan Cars in the Philippines, said that Nissan Japan is seriously considering the Philippines as one of the target markets to sell their Nissan Electric Vehicle (EV) in.
Nissan has already announced plans to sell its electric vehicle based on the Nissan Cube chassis, by next year in North America and Japan. Selected markets in other countries will follow suit by 2012.
Last year, Nissan premiered their Nissan Denki (Japanese for “electric”) Cube Concept, which is most likely where their EV for commercial sales will be based on. The car is powered by compact lithium-ion battery technology.
The car will most likely have a capacity of 160 km, a top speed of 75 km/hr with a recharging rate of 8 hours.
Since the car most likely won’t be made in the Philippines it would probably carry a hefty price tag due to import duties. Similar to the P2.5 Million Toyota Prius Hybrid.
