Green Core Geothermal Inc, a subsidiary of First Luzon Geothermal Energy Corp., which is owned by the Lopez Group’s Energy Development Corp (EDC) recently bagged the Panlinpinon-Tongonana geothermal plant during public auction by the PSALM.
Their bid of $220 million beat out the Aboitiz Groups’s $200 million offer, solidifying further their hold as the Philippine’s number one producer of Geothermal energy.
The Palinpinon power plant is located in Valencia, Negros Oriental and gets its geothermal steam from EDC. Built in 1983, Palinpinon I has 3 37.5MW steam turbines with a total rated capacity of 112.5 MW. Palinpinon II, consists of 3 modular power plants: Nasuji (20MW), Okoy 5 (20MW) and Sogongon (40MW).
