The Department of Energy (DOE) recently gave its approval to seven biofuel projects which have a combined investment of over P7 Billion. The ramp up of biofuel production in the Philippines is in compliance with the 2007 Biofuel Law that mandates for a fixed amount of bioethanol to be mixed in the gasoline and biodiesel in the petro diesel being sold at the pumps.
The Seven Biofuel Projects are:
- Cavite Biofuels Producers Inc - They are located at Magallanes, Cavite and have plans to put up a P3.4 Billion bioethanol facility that has a capacity of 34.4 Million liters/year.
- Chemrez Technologies Inc - the pioneer commercial biodiesel producer will put up a 75 Million liter/year biodiesel processing plant at Bagumbayan, Quezon City that will have a price tag of P650 million.
- San Carlos Bioenergy Inc- 30 Million li/year of bioethanol plant at Negros Oriental. Most likely will be fed with sugarcane and will have a co-generation plant using the leftover waste like what their current structures are designed to handle.
- Golden Asian Oil International Inc. - 60 million liter/year biodiesel plant at Bagong Ilog, Pasig worth P460 million.
- Pure Essence International Inc. - biodiesel plant worth P404 million at Bagong Ilog, Pasig.
- Leyte Agri Corp. - 9 million liter/year bioethanol plant at Ipil, Ormoc City worth P33.6 million.
- Mt. Holly Industrial Co. Ltd. - 10 million liter/year biodiesel processing plant at Lucena, Quezon.
After this, the DOE also announced that there are 15 more proposals for biofuel processing facilities waiting for their approval that could be well worth P20 Billion.
