Phil-Korean Renewable Energy Corp will start building next month a 30MW Biomass plant in Palawan Island that that will use waste wood chips from an 30,000 hectare Ipil-Ipil and Coconut plantation as feedstock. The project is estimated to cost $71.3 Million and will be finished in two years.

Energy generated from the biomass plant will be sold to the Palawan Electric Cooperative. The company is also projecting the need for 3000 workers to work on the facility.

It has also been reported that a Biodigester is being eyed for the city of Palawan that will be used to power their electric jeepneys.

The biodigester will be situated at Barangay Sta. Lourdes where the sanitary landfill is located. The biodigester will produce methane gas from teh city’s waste. It is expected to produce 350 KW from 21 tons of organic waste collected daily.
