Two days from now on the 27th of November, Davao City will play host to the Philippine Auto-LPG Summit. The summit venue is the Waterfront Insular Hotel and will start at 8 AM and end at 5PM.

The one day event aims to impart to the concerned individuals and groups the mandatory standards required in the Auto-LPG industry. These specifically governing the automotive LPG cylinders, dispensing stations requirements and procedures as well as registration requirements of vehicles using automotive LPG.

Auto LPG surplus enginesThe Philippine Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board, which governs the Public Utility vehicles in the country, has allowed some transport groups to use old surplus Auto LPG engines instead of the mixed diesel-LPG that was intially proposed.

I guess this comes right after the Philippine Department of Energy announced that they were sceptical on the viability of a diesel engine running on a partial LPG mix (30%LPG 70% diesel). Especially when it comes to the safety part

Diesel to Auto LPG ConversionAfter announcing that the Philippine Government would offer soft loans for Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) owners to convert their diesel engines to run on a 70-30 mixed blend of diesel and auto-LPG, the Department of Energy recalls the statement saying they’ve discovered that the mixed fuel type is not safe and probably wouldn’t work.

Public Utility Vehicle: Diesel to LPG ConversionUpdate: DOE is changing its recommendation on the use of a Diesel LPG system in PUV’s.

Philippine President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, announced the P1B budget allocated for the public utility vehicle drivers so that they can convert their jeepneys from diesel to Diesel-LPG.

It boils down to P80/day charged to the driver for repayment of his debt for converting his jeepney so that it can accept the cheaper priced Auto LPG. The diesel engine will then run at a mixture of 70% diesel and 30% LPG.

The Department of Energy issued new rules for the selling of Autogas in the public market. Due to the sudden spike of fuel prices last year, a lot of taxi franchises converted their fleet to run on LPG. Hence the mushrooming of vehicles running on LPG.
