Yet another piece of good news in the Philippine energy sector. Callandra CNG Fuels Corp announced that the Philippine Department of Energy has approved their application to invest in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector of the Philippines. This is Callandra’s first investment in Asia.

Callandra will setup 6 CNG refuelling stations that can service 5,000 buses a day. CNG president Randall C. Antonio said that the stations are expected to by finished by 2010.

Petron Corporation: E10 FuelGas Giant, Petron Corporation, announced that they will start selling E10 gasoline in the market. E10 is a mixture of 10% ethanol to 90% gasoline. This is more than enough to be in compliance with the Philippine Biofuel Law which calls for only a minimum 5% mixture of ethanol in gasoline for the first 4 years of enactment of the Law.

The price of the ethanol mixed unleaded fuel will come out cheaper by P2/li. Petron however is recommending that you check first with your car manufacturer if your engine can handle the fuel before tanking up on it.

Public Utility Vehicle: Diesel to LPG ConversionUpdate: DOE is changing its recommendation on the use of a Diesel LPG system in PUV’s.

Philippine President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, announced the P1B budget allocated for the public utility vehicle drivers so that they can convert their jeepneys from diesel to Diesel-LPG.

It boils down to P80/day charged to the driver for repayment of his debt for converting his jeepney so that it can accept the cheaper priced Auto LPG. The diesel engine will then run at a mixture of 70% diesel and 30% LPG.

Honda announced the release of their FCX Clarity for commercial use. The Honda FCX Clarity is a Hydrogen Fueled vehicle that has zero emission and packs an incredible 74 mpg fuel efficiency rate.
